ASHA's Lobbying Efforts to Require SLPs to Pay for the CCC

We don’t need a national association to charge us $225/year to lobby and market their certification product. If they want to recommend certain standards, go for it. But SLPs who are underpaid, overworked, and who don’t feel seen, heard, or valued by the association should not have to pay them a penny if they choose not to. Associations are required to earn the trust and respect of their members, not demand it by conflating membership with certification and heavily lobbying that SLPs are required to pay for their certification every year.

We’ve been getting feedback that ASHA “can’t legally lobby.”

This is not true. A communication with a legislator or government official will be treated as a direct lobbying communication, if, but only if, the communication: (i) refers to specific legislation, and (ii) reflects a view on such legislation. (Duke Health Government Relations).

Let’s take a look at some of ASHA’s lobbying efforts (paid for by YOU!) …
