TLDR
(if you don't want to read, here is the "too long didn't read")
- We have drafted a petition to change the ASHA bylaws (that doesn't interfere with other petitions or efforts).
-
If this change is made, ASHA must be transparent about its finances.
- The price of the CCC should be be DRAMATICALLY reduced to a price reflecting its true cose per ASHA financial statements (somewhere between $12 and $20).
- ASHA should adjust the membership cost accordingly to reflect the actual cost of providing member services.
- Since SLPs can hold the CCC without membership, clinicians would benefit from actual savings.
Only current ASHA members can sign this petition. If you have discontinued paying for the ASHA membership or are a NSSLHA member and would still like to support this effort, contact team@fixslp.com.
All of the Details
We are asking for your help in promoting transparency and fairness in ASHA's pricing structure. We've drafted a petition to amend Section 3.2 of the ASHA Bylaws, which would require ASHA to clearly separate membership dues from certification maintenance fees, ensuring these fees accurately reflect the services provided.
Thanks to the generosity of our sustaining partners, we've been able to fund this effort and work with an attorney experienced in writing bylaws for membership associations.
ASHA currently bundles fees to subsidize other programs unrelated to the CCC, leading to inflated costs. This proposed amendment will help align the costs with actual services, potentially saving members significant amounts. We believe in transparency and fairness, and this is a crucial step toward that goal.
We need your signature on this petition by 9/27/24 to push for this amendment. Only current ASHA members are eligible to sign this particular petition, but if you're no longer a member, contact us for other ways to support!
In Case You Still Have Questions
- Dr. Stewart has successfully submitted a petition to modernize ASHA through shared governance. This movement is an awesome, needed effort that Fix SLP fully supports!
- What we are doing: Our petition addresses ASHA's pricing structure for more transparency and savings. Both initiatives are vital, but they do not overlap.
- No, our petition does not overlap with or change anything about Dr. Stewart's petition.
- This is a new petition, and signatures can not be reused. The original petition was created to show a general consensus among practitioners and consumers.
- Depending on how quickly we can get 5,000+ signatures, we will submit it to ASHA. We want to submit before their public comments close on their bylaw changes on 9/28/24. Their changes attempt to prevent precisely what we are doing.
- No. Only current ASHA members can sign this petition. However, please email us for other ways to support the effort!
